3rd INTERNATIONAL SUMMER
MUSIC ACADEMY
12-22
July 2014 – Kavala
The 3rd International
Summer Music Academy (ISMA) will be hosted by the Municipal Conservatory of Kavala,
giving young musicians the opportunity to attend seminars, workshops,
lectures, presentations and concerts of high quality, and also to participate
in competitions.
The great success of the two previous events (July 2012
& 2013), combined with the parallel lack of serious, top-class music/educational
events outside of the metropolitan centers that are geared toward the youth,
automatically led not only to the continuation of the Summer Music Academy as an institution but also to broadening its
spectrum from a panhellenic to an international event. This institution, which
aims to leave a permanent mark on the musical life both locally and
country-wide, meets the needs of contemporary reality.
The 3rd ISMA will take place in 12-22 July
2014. During this period, there
will be various Master Classes (Piano,
Strings, Winds, Voice, Classical & Electric Guitar, Percussion, Accordion, Advanced
Theory & Composition, Early Music and Choral Conducting) and Panhellenic Competitions (Piano, Strings,
Winds, Voice, Classical Guitar, Percussion and Chamber Music Ensembles).
Participating are 15
Municipal Conservatories, 10 Foreign Music Institutions (Musikhochschule Mannheim-Germany,
Conservatorio di Verona, Conservatorio di Padua, Conservatorio di Bari, Conservatorio
di Brescia, Conservatorio di Trieste και Conservatorio di Venezia-Italy, National
Radio of Sofia [“Hristo Botev” Programme]-Bulgaria, Yasar University-Turkey, Krakow
Music Academy-Poland), 54 Teaching Staff
at Municipal Conservatories and Foreign Institutions, and 2 Ensembles in Residence (DIBATTISTA-LISO
piano duo from Italy and Idée Fixe Ensemble from Greece). The Academy will host
multifarious activities, such as seminars (master classes), lectures, presentations,
workshops and concerts, on thematic units and subjects from Classical to Contemporary
Music.
Liable to participate in the master classes and the
competitions are students of all levels. The competition part is designed
according to study level and age group, so that all students may participate
using the programmes presented at the annual June examinations.
It is important to note that, in addition to the
prizes awarded at the competitions, scholarships or tuition deductions will be
offered for the next academic year (2014-15), subject to the decision of each
Municipal Conservatory’s Governing Board. For students over 20 years, prizes
will be accompanied by solo recitals organized by the Municipal Conservatories
as part of the "Young Artists"
concert series. Performing in those recitals incurs no fees for the young
artists, but offers the opportunity for publicity around Greece.
With this initiative, the Municipal Conservatories
wish to leave a strong mark in view of the crisis undergone by the country. On
the one hand, our aim is to reward through the scholarship scheme those talented
young students who demonstrate impressive progress; on the other hand, we
recognize the need to support the families by facilitating their budget
planning, so that the continuation of their children’s studies is secured. The cost of activities is carefully
determined: it includes reduced prices for early payment of fees (Early Bird), as well as a maintenance fee, which this year is
incorporated to the package offers (breakfast is included).
In addition to the Municipal Conservatory of Kavala, municipal
conservatories from the following cities take part in the 3rd ISMA (in alphabetical order): Ag.
Pavlos, Alexandroupoli, Drama, Kozani, Lamia, Larissa, Polichni, Polygyros,
Ptolemaida, Pylea-Hortiatis, Thermi, Thessaloniki
and Veroia.
The 3rd ISMA is
organizationally supported by BeArtive.
